Help us to create a safer community

Chicagoans will make history this February when we elect District Councils, brand-new elected offices focused on policing and public safety.

What are District Councils?

District Councils are new elected positions, created by the Chicago City Council after years of activism to make policing more responsive to community needs. Each of Chicago’s 22 police districts will be represented by three District Council members. Once elected, District Council members will serve as neighborhood ambassadors to give our community a voice in public safety and policing.

Maurilio Garcia, Jenny Schaffer, and Sam Schoenburg are running to be the first-ever 19th Police District Councilors. Their goal is to empower their neighbors to create a safer community, together.

As your 19th District Council members, they intend to modernize our approach to public safety with additional emergency services that more effectively address community needs.  Their vision is a public safety system that works for all residents—no matter who you are or where you live. But that can only happen if we work together to make it a reality.

Meet the Candidates

The 19th District is large—spanning from Fullerton to Lawrence, and from the Chicago River to Lake Michigan.

We know that not every neighborhood will have the same public safety needs and concerns. We will work diligently to ensure all voices of our district are heard, as we strive to serve all community members and residents of Chicago's 19th Police District, in all its vibrant diversity.

Creating a safer community together.
